Maggie D, Preston: “Ravenbank, and its location, would take some beating”
"I meant to keep Ravenbank to myself but it’s such a gem I have to share it. Not often do I come across somewhere that I am very loathe to leave, so where do I start with the reasons? Spotless, is as good as any, followed by utter peace and quiet despite being on the doorstep of the honeypots of the Lake District. Indeed the silence was only broken by the odd bleat of sheep who were part of the lovely pastoral scene viewed from my bedroom window, or the occasional crunch of hikers’ boots passing this lovely Victorian house as they followed one of many superb hikes in the area. And then there’s the delicious breakfast, from a comprehensive menu that suits any taste.
Heather and Ted are utterly charming and helpful hosts and the Cumbrian hospitality doesn’t end there for Staveley has plenty to offer with the Eagle & Child, a Good Pub Guide recommendation which has excellent bar meals and a super beer garden on the river bank. Otherwise there’s a comprehensive range of shops, as well as Staveley’s Mill Yard where several businesses are
based, including Hawkshead Brewery and the renowned Wilf’s Café with a dining balcony that actually overhangs the river.
Kendal, with its K Shoes complex and wider range of retail outlets is a few miles down the road and in the opposite direction is Windermere, only four miles away. To the south is a network of quiet lanes that are ideal for motoring or cycling and lead to secret villages and country pubs
that are all a million miles away from visitor pressure.
Ravenbank is a perfect base from which to pursue the charms of this beautiful and unique corner of Britain."
Thyristor Twister, North West: "Excellent in all respects".
"I seriously doubt there is a better B&B in Cumbria. Ravenbank is clean, comfortable, well located and the breakfast is fantastic. However, what puts it above the competition is the welcome and service provided by Heather and Ted. They couldn't do enough for us, even allowing us to use our room to dress for a wedding the afternoon after we checked out!
Ravenbank is located within walking distance of the Eagle & Child, which is a must visit if staying in the area. I will would not hesitate to recommend Ravenbank or the Eagle and Child."
